Recent survey has revealed who is likely to get pay rises in Australia. As told by, the bigger your pay packet is the more likely you are to escape the wage freeze! The Typical Student team learned the details.


How Many People Got a Pay Rise?


The report by Essential Media has shown the percentage of Australian citizens who got a pay rise over the past 12 months:

  • 36% of workers got a pay rise.
  • ~52% of professionals were stuck on their old rates;
  • 12% of respondents haven’t had the same job for that period.

At that, worker’s age impacts if they’re getting a pay rise. Pay went up for:

  • 47% of workers aged 18-34;
  • 32% of workers aged 35-54;
  • 19% of workers aged 55 and older.

How Much Do Australians Earn on Average?


And now, what’s the highest average pay workers get in Australia? The highest wages reach up to $2000/week. At that 46% of the well-paid employees had a pay increase over the 12 months. 25% of respondents get less than $1000/week.


How Does Stagnation Affect Australians?

  • 60% of respondents have indicated having financial concerns;
  • 43% of respondents admitted they only had enough money to pay the bills;
  • 20% of respondents admitted “being under financial pressure”

PM Malcolm Turnbull emphasized the creation of 500,000 jobs over the past two years, alongside promises of wage increase. Meanwhile, the inflation rate in Australia rose by 1.9%.


“So more jobs, better jobs, higher wages, stronger growth,” said Mr. Turnbull on Triple M Coffs Harbour.
