When you start your first year at university you might not consider being dropped out as your top priority. However, university degree is not for everyone, so pretty often up to half of the freshmen are being dropped out. As a matter of fact, there are some universities in the UK where the dropout rate is one in four. The main reasons of such huge dropout rates are family problems, academic struggles, loneliness and depression. However, academic struggles are probably the most common reason of dropouts. Moreover, lots of first year students leave their universities voluntarily because they feel like they cannot study that hard. So what are those UK universities that have the highest dropout rates? The Typical Student team put together a list of 10 UK universities where most of the students are being dropped out according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency report.
#1 Birkbeck College, University of London
Location: Malet St, Bloomsbury, London
Dropout rate: 18.5%
Birkbeck College has a lot of famous alumni such as T.S. Eliot or Bear Grylls. However, not everybody can make it to the graduation at Birkbeck College, for instance, Daisy Ridley, a star of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, was dropped out.
#2 London Metropolitan University
Location: 166-220 Holloway Rd, London
Dropout rate: 18.3%
London Metropolitan University has a long list of famous alumni and staff as well. However, you will have to work really hard in order to not being dropped out from this famous university.
#3 The University of Bolton
Location: Deane Rd, Bolton
Dropout rate: 15.8%
The University of Bolton has a great reputation, but the dropout rate there is great as well.
#4 The University of the West of Scotland
Location: Centre for Engineering Excellence, Almada St, Hamilton
Dropout rate: 15.4%
According to the 2016 Complete University Guide, the UWS School of Education is the 6th best in the UK, but you have to work really hard in order to study at UWS.
#5 SRUC
Location: Craibstone Estate, Ferguson Building, Aberdeen
Dropout rate: 14.7%
Scotland's Rural College has a plenty of great agriculture programs, however, you must work really hard in order to get a SRUC diploma.
#6 Glyndwr University
Location: Mold Rd, Wrexham
Dropout rate: 14.6%
Glyndwr University has plenty of students from all over the UK and the European Union, unfortunately a lot of them are being dropped out.
#7 Writtle University College
Location: Lordship Rd, Writtle, Chelmsford
Dropout rate: 13.8%
Writtle is a really prestigious college that offers a lot of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees as well as research programs. However, its dropout rate will probably make you cry.
#8 University Of Suffolk
Location: Suffolk, England
Dropout rate: 13.8%
This new university offers a vast variety of programs and encourages its students to study hard by means of high dropout rates.
#9 The University of Sunderland
Location: Sunderland, Tyne and Wear
Dropout rate: 13.8%
The University of Sunderland as well as Birkbeck College and London Metropolitan University has a lot of notable alumni, however, not everyone can make it to the graduation at Sunderland.
#10 Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh
Location: Queen Margaret University Way, Musselburgh
Dropout rate: 13.7%
Queen Margaret University offers a vast variety of research programs. Of course, for those who managed to graduate.
