When Is Ramadan 2018?

As a matter of fact, the beginning and end of Ramadan depend on the lunar Islamic calendar. In this way, this year the fast began on the evening of Wednesday, May 16 and will end on the evening of Thursday, June 14. Besides, the holiest night of a year, according to the Muslim belief, is “the night of power” as it is the night when the first revelation of the Koran was revealed to Muhammad. Accordingly, this year it is thought to have occurred during the last ten days of the holy month ( the 21, 23, 25, 27 or 29th). Besides, the last day of the Ramadan is the holiday of Eid al-Fitr which marks the beginning of the next lunar month.

First of all, Muslims cannot neglect fasting. If you are an adult Muslim and are not suffering from an illness, traveling, pregnant, breastfeeding or elderly you must fast from sunrise to sunset. Which means that you cannot eat or drink during the day. Besides, smoking and taking medicines during the Ramadan are also prohibited. Muslims also have to practice their self-discipline and read the entire Koran during the holy month before the sacred holiday of Eid al-Fitr. In addition, Muslims should abstain from sexual relations and cleanse their souls by getting rid of harmful impurities. Moreover, during Ramadan it is important to do some charity work and to help those who were less lucky in life.
