This is a story about a lie that apparently is going to ruin a political career. As told by the NY Times, on Monday, a Florida State House candidate admitted that she didn’t graduate from college. A few days before that, however, she tried to dismiss all the allegations by posting a photo with what looked like her college diploma! So, did she or didn’t she? The Typical Student team has tried to find that out.

Melissa Howard is currently running in a Republican primary for the 73rd District in the State House of Representatives. On Monday, she apologized for misleading the public on the fact of presenting a fake college diploma. Still, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, she refused “to drop out of the race.”
In her public apology, Ms. Howard said: “It was not my intent to deceive or mislead anyone. I made a mistake in saying that I completed my degree. What I did was wrong and set a bad example for someone seeking public service. I am staying in the race and intend to win and lead by example from now on.”
How Did the Truth About Melissa Howard Come Out?
Last week, FLA News reported that the University of Ohio had no record of Ms. Howard’s degree. She then flew to Ohio, attempting to refute all the accusations.
Soon after, she took to Facebook to post a picture of herself with a diploma. After the website editorial had apologized to Ms Howard, the Miami University of Ohio issued a statement claiming Ms Howard had not graduated the university!
In response to the whole situation, the university general counsel issued an official statement reading as follows: “The picture of the diploma shows that Melissa Marie Fox received a Bachelor of Science in Marketing degree from Miami University on December 20, 1996. We have no such record of a degree.”
What’s even more outrageous, is that the university didn’t offer a degree in marketing at the time of Ms Howard’s supposed graduation!
According to the university statement, Ms. Howard had attended from 1990 to 1994, and was indeed close to graduation, but DID NOT graduate!
Will Melissa Howard Stop Her Campaign?

NY Times reports, Ms. Howard did not make any comments on the situation. However, her campaign’s website appears to be down. Meanwhile, on her Facebook page she apologized for misleading the her voters. Fellow Republicans called for Ms. Howard to withdraw from the race ahead of the Aug. 28 contest.
According to Tommy Gregory, Ms. Howard’s primary opponent, her “dishonorable act that can bring criminal charges.”
