The University of Maryland places football coach and athletics staff members on administrative leave within the investigation. They are suspended after the death of student. Today, the Typical Student team is going to share with you some details of what happened with 19-year-old football player.
What Happened to Jordan McNair?
Jordan McNair suddenly died summer 2018. He was the student of the University of Maryland, US. Cause of death: hard heatstroke. Jordan was hospitalized after the collapse. His state was described as “being in critical but stable condition at the time”.
Jordan’s football family created the page on GoFoundMe to help student’s parents. Jordan had surgery at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, Baltimore, Maryland. He received a liver transplant and was fighting for his life until his death. It happened June, 13. 2 weeks passed after Jordan participated in a workout at Maryland's outdoor practice fields.
How The University of Maryland Reacts to The Tragedy?
August 2018, according to Jessica L. Jennings, director of communications, an external review was commissioned. Recently the University of Maryland placed staff members on leave. Among them, there’s D.J. Durkin known as the head football coach. Damon Evans (Maryland Director of Athletics) announced the current status of the coach.
"I am extremely concerned by the allegations of unacceptable behaviors by members of our football staff detailed in recent media reports," Evans said in his statement. "We are committed to fully investigating the program".
Also, Evans said that Matt Canada (Maryland offensive coordinator) is going to be an interim head coach.
"Jordan was a tremendous athlete, student, teammate, and friend, and he will be sorely missed," Evans said.
