If you're an Instagram addict always on the hunt for more likes, you may be very upset to hear this news. According to CNN Business, Instagram is expanding its test geared to hides likes to several "more countries, including Ireland, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand." The Typical Student team learned more about the mysterious Instagram test.

Where Will The "Likes" Go?

Previously, news outlets reported that the company started the like concealing test in Canada aiming to reduce pressure on the platform.  Likes, that look like hearts, are seen as popularity benchmark. So, what does the test do? Apparently, the test conceals the overall number of likes on photos and videos for other users. The account ower will still see the likes, though. However, the number of likes will not be shown on the main feed, profiles or permalink pages.

A spokesperson for Instagram commented the news as follows: "We are testing this because we want your followers to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get."

Why Is Instagram Concealing Likes?

There is a reason behind why Instagram is so adamant to hide likes. Turns out, a recent report by the Royal Society for Public Health in the UK, suggests that Instagram is one of the most harmful social apps for young people's mental health. In addition, Instagram is believed to be one of the most aggressive social platforms as it constantly fights bullying. Hiding likes doesn't address issues Instagram users might be having, like depression or feeling left out.

Restricting Bullies

Apart from concealing likes, Instagram is introducing "Restrict" mode meant to fight bullies. Restricting another user conceals the comments that person left on your posts. So, they are only visible to them, while other users can't see them. Also, restricted users won't be able to see if that person is active on Instagram or if they've read their DMs.

It is yet unknown, how the new features will affect the popularity of social platform as well as business accounts. However, users are questioning the changes:
