Durham students shouldn’t hope to dance to Robbie Williams’ ‘Angels’ during the winter ball any time soon. As told by The Tab, St. Marty’s College Balls have excluded the song from their events playlists after a student sustained a “very nasty injury.” The Typical Student team learned more about what had happened.
Why Is "Angels" Forbidden At St. Mary’s College Balls?
Turns out, there’s a Durham tradition where students "rush to the centre of the room" while "Angels" is playing. Durham’s management sent out emails to students saying: "As a result of this review we do not feel that the tradition that has formed around this particular song is safe in the confined space of our Dining Hall or anywhere else within College buildings, e.g the College Bar."
According to The Durham Tab, students indeed have some sort of a mosh tradition: "They play Angels and everyone stands in a big circle, and then when it gets to the line 'and through it all' we all rush together."
