Do We Still Need Football At Schools? Another Student Tragically Dies

Needless to say, death is always scaring. However, the number of US football players students who died at a very young age is more than shocking. January 18, became the day of Spartanburg High School senior’s death. The Typical Student team expresses our sincere sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of Nick Dixon.


Not The First Case





Previously, we already told you the stories of  Jordan McNair and Dylan Thomas who tragically died after football games at the age of 19 and 16. Recently, it happened to an 18-year-old student - Nick Dixon. Nick was a senior at Spartanburg High School. Besides, Nick played on the school’s football team where the student was a captain and a motivator.

“He had a very bright personality,” said family friend Primes Woodruff. “Had a really, really big heart.”


Sports Life





Talking about his sports life, Nock showed on and off the football field.

“Nick was a wonderful student, wonderful athlete,” said Spartanburg School District 7 Superintendent Dr. Russell Booker. “Nick was part of our Viking early college program Early on his high school career, which means he was already earning some college credits.”

According to the officials, Nick went into surgery in order to address a torn ACL and meniscus but suffered complications.

Needless to say, the community is now mourning the loss.

“He took to this community so strongly - not just as an athlete but the pride he found in this community,” said Woodruff. "It's always a shock to people when someone so young and so vibrant loses their life."
