The Typical Student team is saddened to report that Gerald Belz, a University of Iowa student from Cedar Rapids died at the hospital due to severe frostbite. As reported by FOX28 Iowa, he was discovered “outside of a university building in the cold early Wednesday morning.”

According to the official statement from the UI spokesperson, Gerald Belz, a first-year pre-medicine student, “was found unresponsive behind Halsey Hall around 2:48 AM” across the street from the Iowa Memorial Union.
