Viral footage of 80 students brawling with police and teachers during a fight at Bear Creek High School on Friday set the internet on fire. The Typical Student team learned what happened.
What Happened At Bear Creek High School?
At 10:45 a.m., a student started a fight with the Bear Creek High School staff outside the cafeteria. By the time Stockton police arrived, about 80 students were involved in the scene, while some jumped into the melee. As told by DefenseMaven, fellow "students tried to yank police off of the teen they were trying to detain." According to the Stockton Police Department (SPD) press release on the incident: “During this detention, officers were struck by several students and a garbage can was thrown at officers and school staff.”
Did Anyone Get Hurt?
The fight reportedly lasted for about 90 minutes. No students, school staff members, or SPD officers were hurt during the brawl. The student who started the confrontation was cited for resisting arrest, however, students are unlikely to face criminal charges. One of the former Bear Creek High School students, Kira Elkins, expressed her frustration on the altercation with the police: "When you go to school, you're supposed to respect the authority that's trying to keep you safe while you're here on campus."
