In response to massive shootings, US students are pressuring the lawmakers to implement gun control policies. On February 21, the students in Florida and Maryland took part in a mass walk out to protest gun violence. The students from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (Parkland) who witnessed their 17 schoolmates getting killed last week, joined the walkout.

The day before the protest, the Florida state lawmakers dismissed a bill meant to ban assault rifles and high-capacity magazines. What an outrageous thing to do in advance of the nationwide student demonstration scheduled for March.

Mass Protests Scheduled: Students Can’t Take It Anymore

The national school walkout has been scheduled on March 14, while the "March for Our Lives" protest on March 24. Lawmakers are under pressure to take strict gun-control measures. The public opinion polls by the Washington Post, clearly indicate that 58% of respondents believe stricter gun control could have prevented the tragedy. 62% of respondents believe President Trump isn’t doing enough to prevent gun violence.

As for the President, an announcement has been made of the intention to ban "bump stock" devices used in the recent Las Vegas shooting for semi-automatic firearms. The activists are not to put up with the officials’ defiance. The #NeverAgain hashtag is used on social media to support the families of the victims murdered in the Parkland school shooting.

Celebrities Donate to Support March for Our Lives

The student movement is getting massive support from celebrities. Oprah, Steven Spielberg, Kate Capshaw, George and Amal Clooney have already donated to March For Our Lives. Raising the maximum public awareness is crucial to prevent tragedies like Parkland from happening ever again. It’s becoming more and more evident that the U.S. Government must respond to the public demand by strengthening the gun distribution control. We will continue to watch the story as it unfolds.
