Despite Multiple Calls, Campus Police And 911 Did Nothing To Help Utah Student

This terrible story recently went viral, as everyone is completely shocked. To make a long story short, Utah student called 911 and asked them to stop her harasser. However, police did not help and the Lauren McCluskey was found dead. She was shot by the harasser. Let the Typical Student team tell you more about this case!

Lauren McCluskey was a 21-year-old University of Utah senior and track athlete. She was both frustrated and called Salt Lake City Police for help. The student said that a convicted sex offender started continually harassing her after the girl ended their short relationship. She contacted police at the University of Utah, where she attended, and they did nothing.

"I'm worried because I've been working with the campus police at the U, and last Saturday I reported and I haven't gotten an update," said Lauren. "They haven't updated or done anything," she added.

Lauren McCluskey was shot and killed by her harasser on October 22. His name is Melvin Rowland and he’s 37. They met in a bar and dated nearly a month. Soon Lauren learned that the man lied about his age and even about his name. She also figured out he had It appeared that Melvin is a convicted sex offender. He already spent over 10 years in prison. Melvin Rowland committed suicide soon after a police chase. That’s why the student ended this relationship on October 9.


Lauren regularly called campus police during the next two weeks and told them she’s receiving harassing messages. Unfortunately, her calls were obtained after Lauren’s death. After she called them back, the dispatcher advised Lauren to talk to University of Utah police.

"I've contacted them already, I just wanted to talk to you as well," Lauren said. "Yeah, I was just concerned because I wasn't sure how long they were gonna take."
