World Cat Day 2019: Cat Celebrities That Won Over Social Media

August 8 is International Cat Day 2019, also known as World Cat Day. Greetings to all the cat lovers! In case you didn't know, this holiday was started in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Some countries celebrate this holiday on a different day. In Russia, the National Cat Day is observed on March 1, while the US celebrate both International Cat Day and their own National Cat Day on October 29. The Typical Student team previously shared 11 Things Any Cat Owner Lives With In Student Tweets. Now, we're listing the cat celebrities everyone knows!

#1 Taylor Swift's cats

Celebs like Taylor Swift just can't hide their love for cats. The selfies of T-Swift's cats on Instagram garner the number of likes one can hardly imagine. The 29-year-old songstress has recently expanded her feline family with a new member named Benjamin Button, the cat she met while shooting the "ME!" music video.

#2 Nala (@nala_cat

Nala cat has 4.1m followers on Instagram and is currently the most popular cat on social media. She is an 8-year-old Siamese/Tabby cat rescued from a shelter at 5 months. On Nala's profile, you will find lots of fun photos and videos featuring her and other cats.

#3 Grumpy Cat (@realgrumpycat

We couldn't help but pay tribute to the late Grumpy Cat that passed away on May 14, 2019, at the age of 7. That feline was known for her permanently "grumpy" facial appearance, caused by an underbite and feline dwarfism. The world learned of the Grumpy Cat when her picture was posted on Reddit, September 22, 2012. Eventually, lolcats and parodies derived from the picture became viral. Grumpy Cat's Instagram profile now counts 2.7m followers. Over its brief life, this cat was featured in commercials and movies, and even launched the “Kitten Fur” fragrance of its own!

#4 Lil Bub (@iamlilbub)

This cute Lil Bub cat has 2.3m followers and is famous for her unique appearance. Now aged 8, she was adopted by Mike Bridavsky when his friends asked him to give her a home. Lil Bub was born with an extreme form of feline dwarfism which is the reason why her limbs are small compared to the rest of her body. Her tongue always sticks out because of her short lower jaw and toothlessness. Bub's owner Mike Bridavsky sells merchandise (plush Lil Bub toys, coffee mugs, and tote bags).

#5 White Coffee Cat (@white_coffee_cat

White coffee cat is another Instagram's favorite with 2m followers. This British shorthair is 4 years old and is a cancer survivor. In his profile, you can see lots of pictures and videos of Coffee's adventures in his hometown in California. Together with his sister Nala, they've created the @lovenalaco cat community to "make connections and spread love and happiness together!"

#6 The Owl Kitty (@owl__kitty

The Owl Kitty has been jokingly featured in many movies by its owner which makes her a real movie star. With a 484k following on Instagram and a full-blown official website, this cat can be called an influencer in the world of cat celebrities.
