Winter in Australia isn’t full of events, but this doesn’t mean students have to miss all the fun! While it’s almost mid-summer above the equator, the Typical Student team picked the BEST Australian music festivals in July and August to brighten up your winter Down Under. Students have a variety of choices, so don’t let the warm aussie winter stop you from having a blast! Just take a look at the closest events you definitely MUST NOT miss!
Location: Simpson Desert, Queensland
Date: July 10-12, 2018

Birdsville BIG RED BASH is one of the biggest winter fests in Australia held in the middle of a Queensland desert. It’s a family and dog-friendly event, so feel free to get all your family and pets involved! This year, the BIG RED BASH lineup offers acts like John Farnham, Hoodoo Gurus, The Angles, Jon Stevens, etc.

Splendour in the Grass is one of the biggest events to happen this winter in Australia! It has accumulated a marvelous line-up of acts such as James Bay, The Avalanches, Lil Xan and stellar headliners like Kendrick Lamar, LORDE, Vampire Weekend, CHVRCHES, etc.

Attention to all the jazz lovers! Devonport Jazz fest is just the thing you need to enjoy the magnificence of 15 music acts! This year, the festival has invited jazz and blues bands, namely Gospel Songs, Django’s Tiger, Anita Cairns & Billy Whitton at La Pomme Brasserie, etc. Check out the Devonport Jazz festival program to see other acts and performers.
