February 2019 became a winning time for Rami Malek who won Oscar and became a real star after playing Freddie Mercury in a well-known movie about Queen. However, Malek was criticized after his speech at the Oscars and it went viral. Let the Typical Student team tell you more!
Original Story
To make a long story short, Rami Malek called Freddie Mercury "a gay man" at the Oscars. And although Bohemian Rhapsody was the bog winner, Rami was criticized after failing to acknowledge Mercury’s relationships with women.
So, here is what Malek said in his BAFTAs speech:
"To the greatest outsider of them all, for being so unwavering and unflinching and uncompromising in every which way. Thank you, Freddie Mercury, again."
"We made a film about a gay man, an immigrant, who lived his life just unapologetically himself," also Malek said in the midst of his speech. "The fact that I'm celebrating him and this story with you tonight is proof that we're longing for stories like this."
